Fall Soup Flavors

As you likely already know, I’m a huge fan of fall — including all the fall flavors!

While pumpkin and apple recipes tend to be my ultimate faves, butternut squash definitely makes the cut this time of year, as well, you guys!

That said, cooking up soup is my jam year-round,

However, I typically lean on the same 5-6 healthy soup recipes all year long, which means I’m definitely looking to mix things up this year with some cozy fall flavors!

From healthy pumpkin soups to creamy butternut squash soups, I can’t wait to try them all!

10 Butternut Squash Soup Recipes

While I’m a huge fan of soup in general, I’ve never actually tried making butternut squash soup.

Butternut squash has always made its appearance as a baked side dish in my home, and I’m really excited to branch out by trying some of these soups!

That said, there are a ton of butternut squash soup recipes out there, and it was really hard to narrow this list down, you guys!

Somehow, I was able to settle on 10 butternut squash soup recipes I want to try.

  • Creamy Butternut Squash

If you like the idea of turning butternut squash into soup, creamy is definitely the way to go!

This roasted butternut squash soup – via Happy Kitchen features healthy ingredients like carrots, garlic, olive oil, thyme, salt and pepper, vegetable broth, turmeric, paprika, and yogurt (or sour cream) alongside the star of this recipe, butternut squash.

Not only does this recipe sound incredible and is rich in wholesome ingredients, but it also sounds pretty simple, which is a huge plus for soup newbies!

  • Instant Pot Butternut Squash

While stove-top cooking is my typical go-to, I have recently learned to lean on the Instant Pot for soup making, and it can be a pretty useful tool, you guys!

So, if easy and instant is what your soup-making needs, this next one is for you!

Aside from butternut squash, this Instant Pot butternut squash soup – via The Recipe Well features nourishing ingredients such as olive oil, onion, garlic, ginger, vegetable broth, a Granny Smith apple, fresh sage, fresh rosemary, salt, and pepper.

Plus, it features the optional swirl of cream and sprinkle of pumpkin seeds for garnish.

Talk about easy and delicious!

  • Vegan Butternut Squash

If allergy-friendly is what you need, a vegan butternut squash soup recipe (like this next one) will be right up your alley!

This vegan butternut squash soup – via Daniel’s Plate is similar to some of the other recipes mentioned.

However, it calls for one very unique ingredient — pistachios!

Aside from pistachios, this soup is made using butternut squash, onion, Granny Smith apple, vegetable broth, nutmeg, soymilk, sage, salt, and pepper.

  • Spicy Butternut Squash

Sometimes you just need to add a little spice to your life, you guys!

Spicy soup is a fun way to do just that.

Not only is this spicy butternut squash soup – via The Heritage Cook full of kick, but it’s also labeled as gluten-free and is another instant pot wonder, you guys!
Cook up this simple recipe in your Instant Pot using butternut squash, vegetable oil, shallots, celery, carrots, thyme, garlic, vegetable stock, maple syrup (or agave), kosher salt, pepper, and hot sauce.
Using the optional thyme or parsley for garnish.
  • Sausage Butternut Squash

Butternut squash and sausage?

Yes, please!

Ok, this sausage butternut squash tortelini soup – via Dutch Oven Daddy is my type of soup, you guys!

I’m a huge fan of making soup with Italian sausage, and I freaking love pasta — especially pasta that is stuffed with cheese!

This recipe has all of the above.

You can make this incredible-sounding soup with Italian sausage, olive oil, onion, mushrooms, garlic, butternut squash, chicken broth, salt and pepper, sage, tomato paste, cheese tortellini, spinach, and heavy cream.

Talk about YUM.

This one is quite possibly the soup I’m most excited to try out this fall.

  • Apple Butternut Squash Apple

The combination of apple and butternut squash just sounds right, you guys!

Something about the sweet and savory just draws me in.

While similar to some of the other recipes in many ways, this butternut squash and apple soup – via Through the Fibro Fog made the cut for 2 simple reasons.

  1. It calls for any type of apple (the blogger suggests red apples), not Granny Smith, like the others.
  2. It’s only 1 of 2 soups on this list that calls for coconut milk and is the only soup to include the combination of both apple + coconut milk.

You can throw this smooth concoction together using olive oil, butternut squash, apple, onion, garlic, vegetable broth, coconut milk, sage, and salt.

Plus, this amazing-looking butternut squash soup recipe includes the optional idea of bread cubes and sage leaves for topping.

It just sounds so darn good, you guys!

  • Tomato Butternut Squash

I’m a huge fan of the tomato soup + grilled cheese combo, so the idea of making a soup with tomato and butternut squash totally intrigues me!

This butternut squash tomato soup – via Simple and Fraiche looks amazing and sounds super simple!

You can make this soup at home using cherry tomatoes, butternut squash, onion, carrot, garlic, thyme, rosemary, olive oil, sea salt, pepper, chicken broth, and milk.

Don’t forget the optional basil for topping, which simply isn’t optional IMO (I’m a huge basil fan, you guys!).

Yum-O!

  • Butternut Squash Lemongrass

Lemongrass soup? Ok, I’ve officially heard of something new today!

While creating this list of butternut squash soup recipes, I not only wanted to make a list of recipes I wanted to try, but I also wanted to share a list with you that had as much variation as imaginable.

Soups like this one make that possible.

This butternut squash soup – via Moms Who Save is definitely one of the more unique recipes on the list, you guys!

Not only is it made with traditional ingredients such as olive oil, onion, garlic, butternut squash, ginger, cilantro, vegetable broth, and coconut milk, but it also calls for the use of lemongrass stalks.

As if it couldn’t get any better, this soup is also labeled as vegan and includes the optional ingredients of cilantro, chilli peppers, and coconut flakes for garnish.

Definitely looking forward to trying this one!

  • Butternut Squash & Bean

I’m going to be honest, I don’t cook with beans very often.

Chili and sometimes a Mexican dish or 2.

That said, I think I need to change that up this fall.

This Tuscan bean and butternut squash soup – via Day by Day in our World looks like a great one, you guys!

You can create this simple and hearty butternut squash soup recipe using fresh and wholesome ingredients such as olive oil, butternut squash, onion, celery, fresh garlic, dried thyme, rosemary, parsley, oregano, chicken stock powder, chicken stock, cannellini beans, spinach, and lemon.

This one sounds so good for a rainy day!

  • Butternut Squash Protein

Last, but certainly not least, a protein-packed butternut squash soup that sounds uh-mazing!

This protein-packed butternut squash soup – via The Oregon Dietitian is definitely one I’m going to be cooking up for my daughter this fall!

She needs more protein in her diet, and finding creative ways to do that can be a bit challenging for sure.

This recipe is made using onion, celery, garlic, vegetable (or chicken) broth, butternut squash, apple cider, salt and pepper, paprika, and cottage cheese.

I cannot wait to try this one!
