30 Day Workout Challenges

It’s officially time to start challenge number 2 in my series of 30-day workout challenges!

Did you follow along with our first one? The 30-day squat challenge? Or are you jumping in for the first time?

Either way, welcome!

Ok, before we dive in, I have to be completely honest with you.

I fell off the wagon with my first 30-day workout challenge.

Due to some life chaos and sickness moving through our house, I had to restart my 30-day squat challenge a couple of times over.

That said, I’m devoted to making better choices for myself, and sometimes that means doing the hard thing.

So, call me crazy, but I’m doubling up this month!

I will be finishing up a majority of my squats while starting this new walking challenge.

Why a 30 Day Walking Challenge?

Spring is almost here, and I figure that’s the perfect time to get some extra walking in!

So, if you’re ready for challenge number 2, keep on reading, friend!

Strangely, I live in one of the most beautiful areas in Montana, and I still struggle to find the motivation to get out of the house for a good walk.

However, once I’m out there, I realize just how much I needed that walk, and I thoroughly enjoy it every time!

Either way, walking is great for the body, and being in nature is great for the soul.

So, here I am ready to embrace a full month of taking walks and hoping to form new habits for my well-being that (hopefully) last a lifetime!

30 Day Walking Challenge Benefits

While my main goal with this walking challenge is to get outdoors, soak up a little vitamin C, and disconnect from the inside muffled mundanity of life, I do understand that nature walking may not be available to everyone.

So, I truly made all of these challenges to fit any lifestyle!

That said, walking has proven benefits no matter where you do it.

General walking is good for the body and can help with weight management.

Walking in nature, however, can boost calm and reduce stress.

However you plan to use this challenge, there are important benefits for everyone!

Pick Your 30 Day Walking Challenge

As with all of our 30-day workout challenges, I plan to make 3 different levels, allowing these challenges to work for anyone!

No matter the season of life you are in, what your needs are, or your workout skill level, I’ve got a challenge for you.

Blue background with the silhouette of a man walking and 4 sheets of 30-Day walking challenges + overlay text that reads: Pick Your Challenge

Not only did I create 3 premade levels for this walking challenge, but I have also created a blank bonus sheet.

So, if you need something even more flexible, I’ve got you covered, too!

You can find all levels broken down below.

  • 30-Day Walking Challenge Level 1

Starting slow and focusing on progress over perfection is my jam, you guys!

That’s why I chose to create multiple levels to each new 30-day workout challenge here on Healthy Farmhouse.

30-Day Walking Challenge Level One

Level one is a super reachable 30-day walking challenge that most anyone should be able to master.

This gradual challenge starts with a 5-minute walk and ends with a 30-minute walk.

As you go through, you will experience 4-5 consecutive days of the same length walk with an optional rest on every 5th day.

Then, smack dab in the middle of this challenge, when you reach 15 minutes, I chose to increase the consecutive days to 6, helping you get over the hump!

To be honest, this is the challenge I’m picking this time around, you guys!

I need something simple to go along with finishing up my squat challenge and forcing myself to walk too long, might just throw me off the wagon again.

Start your own level one walking challenge today!

  • 30-Day Walking Challenge Level 2

This second level is also low and slow, only adding an additional 15 minutes to your end walk.

Honestly, most skill levels could master this walking challenge with ease, and I might double up sometime in the summer with one of my other 30-day workout challenges to try and tackle this level as well!

30-Day Walking Challenge Level Two

Level two is very reachable and still what I would call gradual.

Much like level one, this challenge also starts with a 5-minute walk!

However, it ends with a 40-minute walk instead of 30.

As you walk through this challenge (pun intended), you will experience 3 consecutive days of every length walk with an optional rest on every 5th day!

I did not include any extra consecutive days in the middle, so getting over that hump may be slightly more challenging on this one!

All that said, this challenge is perfect for those who want to up their walking game this spring.

  • 30-Day Walking Challenge Level 3

Last, but certainly not least, level three of our walking challenges!

While not necessarily an over-the-top workout challenge, this level is better suited for those who are already walking or for those who have the time to dedicate and the motivation needed to walk for a full hour every single day.

So, if getting a full hour of walking in every day is your ultimate goal, this is your challenge!

30-Day Walking Challenge Level Three

The level three 30-day walking challenge starts with a 10 minute length walk and ends with a 60 minute length walk!

With this challenge, you will still experience many consecutive days featuring the same length walk.

That said, there are also no built-in rest days!

You will spend 2-3 days on the same length walk before moving on, and you will complete your challenge with a full hour-long walk on day 30!

This is a great option for those of you who live in warmer climates, as March represents the coming of spring!

  • Bonus CREATIVE Walking Challenge

I am devoted to creating workout challenges that work for everyone!

That said, I know we all experience different seasons of life.

So, as always, I’ve got a bonus freebie for you, guys!

While I mentioned using the bonus sheet in our 30-day squat challenge as an extreme challenge by doubling levels 1-3, I have some different ideas in mind for this one!

In place of one of our premade sheets, try customizing your 30-day walking challenge by utilizing some of these fun ideas instead!

First, try mixing up your walks by challenging yourself with specific types of walks each day.

Try incline walks, indoor walks, nature walks, walks at the park, stair climbing walks, etc.

Next, consider alternating between brisk walking and relaxing walks or focus on the time of day by planning nighttime walks, sunset walks, or early-morning walks!

Finally, try these fun ideas for this blank walking challenge sheet!

Walk while listening to music or a podcast, walk with a friend, have an untimed relaxing walk, or alternate between short and long walks depending on your schedule!

However, you choose to use it, this blank walking challenge sheet truly is an option for anyone!

Starting the Walking Challenge

This is only the second of my 30-day workout challenge series, and I’ve got to say, getting started still is the hardest part, you guys!

I’m still finishing up my first challenge and about to begin doubling up by tacking this one on too.

Needless to say, I’m struggling and hoping this new challenge will be a motivating win for me.

Grey background with white open notebook that reads: getting started

All that said, all you need to do to get started is take that first step (literally, you guys).

Whether you are starting this challenge on March 1st or starting on a random Tuesday in May, getting started is the important part.

Ready to get walking? Check out some of the simple ways I stay on track or get started again when I fall off the workout wagon.

  • Habit Stack it

Yes, yes, yes! I will always mention habit stacking when it comes to adding something new to your routine.

Forming new habits has been a big goal of mine lately, and this has been one of the biggest ways I’ve been able to reach that goal time and time again!

Habit stacking your new workout with something you already succeed at? It’s golden, you guys!

  • Break it into Chunks

While this may not be ideal at the beginning of this challenge (I mean, splitting a 5-minute walk into 2 2.5-minute walks seems a little silly, right?), this is a great option for later in the challenge!

As a giver-upper, I can honestly say that breaking workouts into smaller chunks throughout my day means I am less likely to give up.

So, if you’re hitting the 20-minute mark and you find it hard to fit into a single chunk of time, break your walks up into 2 10-minute intervals instead!

Grey background with white overlay text that reads small steps, big goals

When you reach the end of your challenge, and you are walking 30, 45, or 60 minutes a day, what does it matter how many times you had to walk to get there?

Whether you walk for 60 consecutive minutes on a track or take a 20-minute walk around your bedroom, and 2 seperate 20 minute walks outside with the dog, you still walked for an hour that day, and in my book that totally counts, you guys!

Give yourself some grace, and break things up to make those goals more reachable!

  • Set a Reminder

Finally, set a reminder!

If you are busy or just a forgetful person, setting alarms or reminders on your phone can be a super easy way to stay on task and complete your workout challenge in the time frame you’re shooting for.

While I don’t use this method all the time, I do on occasion.

For example, I’m working on forming the new habit of intentional praying mid-day.

So, every day at 3 pm, my prayer alarm goes off, and I shut my computer, take a pause in our homeschool lesson, or stop doing the dishes to sit quietly and still in my bedroom for a handful of minutes with God.

I’ve been pretty consistent with it because of that annoying alarm, and I’m definitely thankful for smartphones sometimes, you guys!

Finishing the Journey

I have a feeling that finishing this one will be super refreshing, you guys!

Especially if you are mainly walking outdoors.

All that said, finishing this walking challenge is still only the beginning.

We have 10 more challenges to go this year.

So, get to walking, and I hope to see you next month!!
